England out

England drew 0-0 with Portugal after ninety minutes and neither team were able to find a goal in extra time so England's fate would once again be decided by a penalty shoot out and once again England would be found wanting.

Portugal won the shoot out 3-1 after Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher missed from the spot- although Carragher did score at first before he was ordered to re-take his penalty which was then saved.

England had to play the last half hour of the 90 and all of extra time with 10 men after Wayne Rooney was sent off for stamping. Peter Crouch came on as a subsitute and gave an excellent performance but with the extra man Portugal were always able to crowd the Liverpool striker out.
