Eriksson delighted for captain Heskey

The 25-year-old took the much-treasured armband at the home of his former club Leicester City after Anfield colleague Michael Owen had been substituted at half-time. While Eriksson concedes that David James was expected to receive the honour, he felt that Leicester-born Heskey was a fitting leader for the side.

Eriksson said: "We should have given the armband to David James after Michael but emotionally I felt for Leicester born Heskey to captain England in front of his home crowd is a big thing."
