European Cup hero may leave in January

Jerzy Dudek, who has been sat on the sidelines since Jose Reina's arrival, told Polish press that he may have to seek a transfer away from Anfield if he is not able to impress on the pitch before the World Cup this Summer.

Dudek said, "I don't want to be counting on an injury to a colleague and that places me in a tough situation. I told him that situation does not interest me. I played most of Poland's matches in qualifying for the World Cup but if I don't play for my club I could wind up not going to the finals. For me that would be a disaster."

The Liverpool keeper has enjoyed a somewhat turbulent career at Anfield, with performances ranging from the horribly surreal, memorably against Man Utd, to the gloriously sublime, saving a point blank Schevchenko shot and penalty to claim the European Cup last May.

It is thought Benfica are interested in signing the big Pole, who it now seems, rather sadly, may never be in our goal again.
