Everton star holding talks with Reds

Could be following Barmby to Anfield

The Portuguese international defender was transfer listed by Everton last week after failing to agree a new deal.

Xavier is available on a Bosman in the summer but the Blues are desperately trying to sell him rather than lose him for nothing.

Comfortable on either side of defence, Xavier is one of Everton's best players. With Jamie Carragher facing a lengthly lay-off and Markus Babbel unlikely to return for months, he would prove an ideal signing and a good bit of business for the club if a deal could be agreed by all parties concerned. He would also be available to play in the Champions League.
