Building Bridges, now in its fourth year, was funded by Merseyside Health Action Zone and managed by the Royal Liverpool Children's NHS Trust as a way of developing and improving services for black and minority ethnic children and their families.

Held at Blackburne House, Liverpool, the day of events featured speeches and performances by some of the children the project has helped.

He said: "Many families, who do not have English as their first language, can often feel alone and isolated.

"Building Bridges has given counselling, support, advice and help in accessing services to many of the most vulnerable people who need it the most.

"I have an enormous admiration for what these people do and am very pleased to support the project."
