EXCLUSIVE: Houllier keeping an eye on Leeds ace

Last updated : 12 April 2002 By Kop Talk News

Kop Talk sources claim that Gerard Houllier is monitoring the transfer developments surrounding Leeds United midfielder Olivier Dacourt.

The French midfielder is tipped for a summer departure with Lazio keen to sign him. Gerard Houllier made attempts to sign him when he was at Everton but nothing came of them.

Dacourt's agent Bruno Satin admits to talking to Lazio but insists no deal has been agreed as yet.

"I have met Lazio, but there are a few things that still need to be discussed," said Satin.

The midfielder, who is currently out of action due to a hamstring injury, is also attracting the interest of several other clubs including Juventus, Inter Milan and Arsenal.

Our source made it quite clear that there has been no approaches for Dacourt (unofficial or official as yet) and that the player is likely to be overpriced by Leeds United, especially if Liverpool showed any real interest.

Meanwhile Rangers star Barry Ferguson remains a target but Chelsea's Emmanuel Petit could be a shock signing in the summer if the price is right.

Kop Talk can confirm that Dacourt's team-mate Hary Kewell has been sounded out regarding a switch to Anfield in the summer and further developments are expected on that front between now and pre-season training.
