Experience will be vital

Liverpool play Man Utd at Anfield in the first leg of the FA Youth Cup final this evening. The Reds are the defending champions and with half the current side also a part of the successful 2006 side they will have plenty of experience to call upon.

"When you get the very first game in the Youth Cup at Anfield you are concerned as a coach as to whether the boys will respond to playing there," said Academy coach John Owens.

"Most fans, who stand on the Kop or at the ground, would say I would love to play there. It is everyone's dream. So these lads are getting the chance at 17 or so to live that dream. But you can never be sure when they go out whether the occasion might overtake the football and they can sometimes freeze.

"But the fact they have been on this run to the final and many of them have the experience of last year, means that shouldn't be an issue."
