Ex-Red retires

McAteer, who was signed for the Reds by Roy Evans in 1995, has not had his contract as player/coach at Tranmere Rovers renewed. Rather than look around for another club, the former Republic of Ireland international has decided to retire.

Playing 150 games for Liverpool was the highlight of boyhood Red McAteer's career. That head 'n' shoulders advert was the low point.
