Fairclough: Derby can start Liverpool revival

"I'm looking forward to the derby game immensely - and with the Wayne Rooney factor coming into play, I think we could have a real spectacle on our hands.

"Rooney is just an exceptional talent, the best I have seen come through in years.

"Everton will be quietly confident after the run of form they have had, and also because of the fact that they have a player in Rooney who is almost scary, but there is nothing for Liverpool to fear from this game."

But we must be positive and say that there is lots of talent in Gerard Houllier's squad.

"And the derby game might just be the game for Liverpool to lift themselves.

"I hope Baros gets a run now after scoring at Sunderland. He deserves it. I think he is a player who might trouble Everton - I can actually see the two key players being Baros and Rooney.

"I've been a Liverpool fan for as long as I can remember, and I don't like Everton being above us going into a derby match.

"I think Gerard has also had a problem with the form of what you would call the spine of his team.

"Steven Gerrard has had a bit of a down spell, but he is a young player who epitomises everything about Liverpool Football Club and will come through it.

"A year or 18 months ago, it was impossible to believe the Liverpool team could exist without Steven Gerrard. He's had a rough spell, but he has got the spirit, drive and enthusiasm Liverpool need."
