Fans told to arrive at Anfield early

A large police presence is expected at the match to deal with the thousands of fans set to arrive from Scotland in the vain hope of claiming a ticket for the match.

Ged Poynton, Liverpool's Stadium Manager and Safety Officer, said: "We would like to encourage all supporters coming to tonight's game to arrive as early as possible at the ground.

"This will help us to alleviate some of the pressure which will be caused by the anticipated large number of supporters coming down from Scotland.

"After close consultations with Merseyside Police it has been decided that cordons at selected locations around the stadium will help us only filter fans through to the stadium who have valid tickets for the game.

"We would encourage all fans to have their tickets available for inspection so they can pass through the cordons quickly and with ease.

"If spectators have made private arrangements to meet friends or colleagues in areas next to the stands - especially the Main Stand or Anfield Road Stand then we would advise them to make alternative plans to see each other outside the cordoned off areas and not inside them.

"The cordons will be in operation from 5pm and will be in place at the following locations: The corner of Anfield Road and Arkles Lane; the corner of Anfield Road and Lothair Road, the corner of Walton Breck Road and Skerries Road and the corner of Walton Breck Road and Lake Street.

"The decision to introduce these cordons has been made to ensure the safety and security of spectators coming to tonight's game.

"It would help us greatly if you could arrive earlier than normal at the stadium and make sure you have your tickets available for inspection."
