Fenerbahce deny Alonso link

"For a while now, there are reports in the press saying our club is after Xabi Alonso and that even a deal has been reached upon his transfer," the statement reads.

"Today, a lot of newspapers published news that we were negotiating with Liverpool and that we had a tactical strategy of bargaining. "

"These reports are not true. Our club has no intention on transferring Xabi Alonso."

With Steven Gerrard now injured it is becoming increasingly likely that Alonso will still be a Liverpool player when the season starts next week.
