Ferdinand only signed a new contract eight weeks ago but after Rafael Benitez expressed an interest in the England under 21's defender West Ham offered him a new improved contract this week which he has signed.
Benitez is still hoping to bring in Daniel Agger from Brondby this week in a £5.5m move.
