Figo deal close

Liverpool had agreed personal terms with Figo and were all set to bring him to Anfield on a free transfer when Real Madrid suddenly slapped a £2m transfer fee on the Portugese international. However, when Liverpool refused to pay the £2m the deal looked to be over.

Figo's representatives have been in talks with Real's president, Florentino Perez, ever since and it now looks like they have persuaded Madrid to waive the fee as originally promised.

Figo was offered a one year deal by Liverpool and could join the Reds at their Zurich training camp early next week.
