Finnish finale for Jari

The 33-year-old schemer showed only rare glimpses of his mercurial skills in an injury-blighted 18 months at Anfield and returned to Dutch giants Ajax in the summer of 2002.

The hugely talented playmaker was again only to reproduce the form of his first-spell in Amsterdam in brief cameo displays as injury problems once more prevented him from reaching his high standards.

After just twenty appearances Ronald Koeman announced that the club legend was to be released from his contract, and Litmanen has now found a new home for his undoubted talents.

Litmanen, speaking to Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat, said: "I see FC Lahti as an interesting option. I took part in founding this team, followed its development closely and now there is a chance to be part of it.

I will make (my) next decisions during the summer. I have two options, to play until the end of the season in Finland or to leave (and play) abroad again."
