Former Liverpool midfielder David Thompson looks set to sign for Blackburn Rovers before the new season gets underway.

The Coventry City player was told by Gary McAllister that he would have to be sold to ease club debts and Rovers have been sniffing around him for some weeks now.

Talking about the speculation surrounding Thompson, Coventry Chairman Mike McGinnity said: "As far as David is concerned, I'm still having very positive talks with a Premiership club and it could be that we sign a deal for him in the next few days."
