Former Red backs Gerrard

The Coventry City manager played alongside Gerrard during the club's memorable treble season and he believes that the 23-year-old England international will be 'a sight to behold' once he learns to channel his natural agression for the benefit of the Anfield cause.

McAllister said: "I saw what happened against Galatasaray and Steven was set up. He was not involved in the original incident which led to all the bother and was actually trying to walk away when it all went off.

"OK, so he paid the penalty, but he will learn from that. In the last couple of years he has gone from being one of Liverpool's most promising players into a natural leader on the pitch.

"It is easy to forget he is still only 23. The influence he has on the team shows how quickly he has developed. And there is much more to come.

"The lad is a strong character and he will be the first to tell you he is still learning certain aspects of the game. When he is the finished article he will be a sight to behold."
