The ex Liverpool defender feels it is imperative that Liverpol find their brst form quickly if they are to mount a serious challenge for honours this season.

He said: "Liverpool must be desperate to put any sort of performance together. They are not playing well as a team, but they just have to find a win from somewhere.

"The situation is worrying because it's come so early in the season, but I still think the team can pull out of it and put a run together.
They're in there with the chance of winning the championship.

"Look at Arsenal and Manchester United and what they have done after their bad run a month or two ago.

"I think Gerard Houllier still feels he has a squad which is good enough to give everyone a run for their money. But, at the moment, Liverpool have a confidence problem. They look nervous and that comes from not winning.

"I think they will be all right and one of these days I can see them giving someone a good hammering."
