Former Red wants Scotland job

Alex McLeish's departure for Birmingham has left the position vacant and the former Liverpool player and manager is one of the favourites to be offered the job.

"I would be interested in taking a national team position," he said when asked about the role.

Souness was a legendary midfielder for the Reds, leading them to domestic and European glory, but his career as a manager has been less successful.

After a decent spell in charge at Rangers he returned to manage Liverpool in 1991, lasted for three years and was blamed for the demolition of the boot room and the subsequent demise of the club.
Since then he has managed Galatasaray, Southampton, Torino, Benfica, Blackburn and Newcastle, rarely achieving much success.
