Paul Sturrock's men refused to allow Newcastle an easy win and were unlucky not to have claimed all three points themselves, being denied by a late goal from Ambrose.
But the draw wasn't enough to keep Newcastle's hopes of finishing fourth alive and the result of Saturday's clash will not affect the league positions.
