The highly-rated young winger, who has already cemented his placed in Scotland's under-20 squad, is targetting the new year as the time for his dazzling array of skills to be seen by the Anfield faithful on a regular basis.

Foy said: "I have been playing regularly in the reserves so I would hope it is only a matter of time before I'm knocking on the first-team door," the likeable youngster said. "The standard in the Premiership reserve league is so good it is like the SPL. I play sometimes with eight internationals at Liverpool who can't break into the first team and it's more or less the same going down the league.

"My aim is to play for the senior team next year. I have been training with the first team for about seven months and it really is a world of its own but that is the only way I'll learn. The way I look at it is that I have been moved up to the first team for a reason. If they think I'm good enough to play and train with the likes of Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard, then they must believe in me.

"When I first started training with them, it wasn't intimidating but it was a little overwhelming. The previous season I had just watched these guys on television and all of a sudden I'm playing beside them. The senior players have been great with me. They did the same themselves, going into the team when they were just young lads. They got to know what it was all about and how to handle it when they were playing with their heroes.

"Phil Thompson and Sammy Lee have faith in me but it was the former Rangers player Alex Miller who told me I was going to get a chance. The star names treat you the same but also take you under their wing. They encourage you to do well but a guy like Owen is in a league of his own, just different class."

"The hero I always look at is George Best but not for what he did away from football. On the pitch he was something special. I also respect Ryan Giggs and, at Liverpool, Harry Kewell. It is the entertainers I like."
