The French youngsters have had opportunities in the first team since arriving from Le Havre in the summer and the manager believes they can impress again this month.

Diouf joins up with the Senegal squad for the African Nations Cup after Liverpool's game with Aston Villa on 10th January, while his fellow countryman Salif Diao struggles with an injury.

"With Diouf and possibly Diao away the two French boys Le Tallec and Sinama-Pongolle will get their chance," said Houllier. "Salif has only started running this week after injury so I don't know whether he will be able to go. A decision will be made this week.

"At the start of the season I didn't think I would be relying on them too much because they were settling into a new league and new country. However, they have done really well, shown their worth and adapted quickly.

"They will get a chance to show what they can do and it will be a good opportunity for them to play."
