FT: Spurs 1 Liverpool 1

The Reds were unlucky not to have been awarded a penalty early in the first half when Steven Gerrard was tugged down in the box.

But it was the new French striker who broke the deadlock before half-time with an instinctive shot beyond Paul Robinson to give Rafael Benitez's side the lead.

Liverpool looked to be coasting for three points, and Florent Sinama Pongolle was brought on for Djibril Cisse on the hour.

However, Jermaine Defoe showed his skill by dribbling the ball through Liverpool's defence before firing past Jerzy Dudek for the equaliser on 70 minutes.

From then on Spurs looked like they could have stole the game, but Liverpool held on for a point.
