Carew's largely publicised pre-match comments angered Liverpool fans who felt he had shown disrespect, but the strikers words may ease the ill feeling.
He said: "It is not easy to beat Basle in Switzerland but I think Liverpool are the better team and have a very good chance of winning and going through.
"We are a better team that Liverpool but, even so, I still think either of us are capable of winning the Champions League.
I didn't say anything against Michael Owen, but I was determined I would not react to the crowd and all the stick they gave me."
