Garcia gives Reds late win

Liverpool overcame Arsenal 1-0 at Anfield last night thanks to Luis Garcia's 87th minute goal. The Spaniard had only been on the pitch a couple of minutes before he broke Arsenal hearts with his fifth league goal of the season.

Liverpool are now 10 points clear of Arsenal after dominating the game from start to finish. If it wasn't for an excellent performance by Jens Lehman things could have been much worse for the Gunners.

Liverpool had 24 chances on goal compared to Arsenal's six and the Reds should have been out of sight by half time. Firstly Fowler headed a John Arne Riise cross narrowly wide before Harry Kewell and Riise both saw shots skim past the post.

Phillipe Senderos almost scored an own goal when his attempted headed clearance went goalwards but Lehman was alert to the danger and pushed the ball out for a corner.

Fernando Morientes also had a couple of chances but was unable to force Lehman into any sort of serious save.

Liverpool's best chance of the half came from the penalty spot after Morientes had been shoved off the ball by Emmanuel Eboue. However, Lehman continued his one man mission to deny the Reds a win by diving to his right and saving Gerrard's spot kick.

It was more of the same in the second half with Fowler, Morientes and Kewell all testing Lehman but all finding the German international in fine form.

Liverpool got the win their play deserved when subsitute Didi Hamann cracked a powerful shot goalwards. Lehman managed to push the ball wide but Garcia was on hand to bury the rebound and send the Liverpool fans home happy.
