Gerrard backs Rooney to flow

"I spoke to Wayne on the phone after the game and he was really buzzing after getting off the mark for England," said the Liverpool midfielder.

"There was a lot of pressure on him to get his first goal for his country and he was delighted. I'm sure they will start to flow now."

But Gerrard thinks that the Everton forward's best position is in the hole behind Michael Owen and Emile Heskey.

"I think he is a better out and out striker but I'm sure he will be comfortable if he does have to play off the front two."
