Gerrard close to top form

Gerrard set Liverpool on their way to a 2-0 win over PSV Eindhoven yesterday with the opening goal and a man of the match display. The Liverpool captain believes he is getting close to his top form again and yesterday was proof of that.

"I've been working hard in training to get my form back, it's not altogether there yet but it's getting better," he said.

"It goes without saying that I like to play in the middle. It's my favourite position and it's where I like to play.

"But I've got to do a job for the team and if the manager wants me to play elsewhere I will do the best I can.

"I was a bit disappointed we didn't keep the ball better in the second half but the plus is we are top of the group. Although that doesn't automatically mean we'll get a weaker team. But being at home in the second game is a definite advantage."
