Gerrard confident before France clash

The England team looked out of sorts in their 1-1 draw with Japan in Manchester last night but Gerrard insists the team will click together before they play France in their opening Euro 2004 game.

"There's still nearly two weeks to go before the France game and there is a lot of work to be done on the training pitch before then," said Gerrard.

"It's difficult to adjust to being on the left side after playing in the centre all year for Liverpool but the manager thinks I can do a job there and I agree with him. I'll be ready for the France game."

Gerrard also backed the claims of Frank Lampard to be selected against the French, even though he was below par in last night's match.

"I thought Frank did really well," he said. "He is used to playing slighty different role for Chelsea but he'll get another chance on Saturday (against Iceland) and I'm sure he will be ready for France if he is picked to play."
