The Anfield skipper will be joined by prolific Anfield striker Michael Owen, Jamie Carragher and Birmingham-bound striker Emile Heskey in Sven Goran Eriksson's squad.

Gerrard accepts that fellow Liverpool stars Dietmar Hamann, Milan Baros and Vladimir Smicer will pose a serious threat for Germany and the Czech Republic respectively, but he firmly believes that England can claim their first international honour for 38 years in the summer ahead.

Gerrard said: "Germany are very strong and the Czech boys have a good chance too. Any of the Liverpool boys could be bringing a medal back. I'm very confident we can do really well though. We've got the ability to at least get to the final and I will personally be very disappointed if we don't go all the way."
