"We're improving all the time. There's still improvement to show - we want to win the league and we're not conceding goals, which is a good base to start from," says Gerrard.
"We're still a bit away, but if we keep progressing we could be there this season or next.
"It wasn't a classic to watch, but taking the three points was the most important thing.
"It was similar here last year when we drew, but we had the spark in the end with Fernando Morientes."
