Gerrard criticises fixture congestion

"Everyone has an issue about the amount of games we have to play and somewhere down the line the football authorities have to sit down and sort this madness out," he said.

"Most of the lads have played nearly 60 games this season and it is a question now of football looking into these issues because they are out of hand.

"Either the season has got to be shortened or these games have to be played within the season.

"It tires you, it's very difficult to cope and that is why teams get knocked out of tournaments so early because they are exhausted."
