The scorer of the Reds' third goal, which all but clinched the game in the last few minutes was critical of his own performance, but insisted the team spirit won it for them.

"Arsenal are a fantastic team," he said after the game. "At times today they passed us off the pitch but we stayed together, we had that belief and in the end we came through. It was a great team performance tonight.

"That was possibly one of the worst performances I've put in in a Liverpool shirt but I still had the confidence I'd score the pen. It wasn't about the goalscorers tonight - it was about the whole team - fantastic!

"Over two legs we're a match for anyone and if them fans perform like that its a big help to us and other teams find it impossible.

"We've got some big league games coming up, but we're ready for Chelsea."
