With Chelsea claiming to be prepared to pay up to £100million for a star player, the newspapers were quick to link the Liverpool skipper with a move to Stamford Bridge, but he insists he is commited to the Reds.

"The fans know better than to believe everything they read," he said. "I've just signed a four-year contract with Liverpool so I can't understand why anyone would write about me leaving.

"I've just committed my future to Liverpool. That's it."
