Gerrard: Don't blame Houllier

The Reds midfielder insists that the Liverpool players are to blame for the current run of three points from a possible 24, not the manager.

He said: "The criticism the manager has had has been unbelievable.

"When you look back at the state the club was in four or five years ago, then he has come in and turned us into a treble winning team which has improved each season.

"We are having a bad spell but there's still plenty to play for and we could still have a good season.

"We are still in the title race, we're in the semi finals of the Worthington Cup and in the last 16 of the UEFA Cup. What has happened is down to the players and it's up to us to sort it out.

"The gaffer can only do so much. He can get us organised, pick the team and have faith in us. Then it is down to the 11 players and the subs to repay him by getting the results and the results speak for themselves lately. They haven't been good enough.

"It is daft to blame the manager. We have spoken in the dressing room about things. We are lacking in confidence and we probably do need a scrappy 1-0 win to get us going again but we'll be back.

"We are all sticking together and putting in that extra 10 per cent to try and put things right."
