"I'm obviously really proud to have equalled Rushie, but also slightly embarrassed. Ian Rush is a legend at this club," said the Reds' skipper.
"I hadn't been thinking about the record, but it was mentioned after the game I'd now scored the same amount, so that's reallypleasing. The main thing is for us all to go on and win as many trophies as Rushie did."
Michael Owen is the club's top scorer in European football with 22 goals but Gerrard is closing fast on that record as well; the Liverpool captain has scored 17 times for the Reds in Europe.
