Gerrard expects Owen goals

Owen has yet to score for England during Euro 2004, but Gerrard believes that the prolific forward will soon regain his touch in front of goal as Portugal stand in the way of a place in the last four.

Gerrard said: "I expect him to score goals in this tournament because he's a goalscorer and a world-class player. He has set such standards that when he doesn't score for one or two games he gets criticism.

"But I think he is the leading player for assists and has been running himself into the ground. Hopefully he'll get a goal on Thursday night and that will send us into the semi-final.''
