Gerard Houllier, however, has today insisted that the dynamic England star has yet to be ruled out of what is sure to be a most difficult clash with a Chelsea side currently sixteen points above Liverpool in the Premiership table.
Houllier said: Stevie is definitely ruled out this weekend. But after that we will see how things develop.
"He's had the scan and we will know next week if he will be okay for Chelsea. I'm not ruling him out at this stage. I hope he will be okay.
"We will have another look at Stevie before that game and see how he is before we make a decision."
