Gerrard happy with how it went

"Monaco are a good side and made it difficult for us, but we're happy with how it went," he said after the game. "We played well, scored two goals and kept a clean sheet so we'd have settled for this before the game.

"It's dangerous to be 1-0 up in the Champions League because of the quality you're playing against. You know they can always come back into the game, but I thought we passed the ball very well at times tonight and it was pleasing to see. We could have had more goals.

"We played some nice football and worked hard. We limited them to very few attempts on goal which was pleasing, and is something to build on for the United game on Monday.

"If you listened to the atmosphere tonight, the fans enjoyed it, the players enjoyed it and this is where we want to be. We want to do well this year in the Champions League and if we keep playing like that who knows."
