"It was nice to get a win but this team has a lot of improving to do. There were some positives and some decent performances. But we realise under this manager there are still a lot of steps to take before we are really happy," said the Liverpool and England captain.
"We're really impressed by the manager's ideas and his methods. He's certainly a winner. But it will take time for the players to adapt and perform in the exact way he wants us to perform, but there were signs there tonight.
"I think the future is bright. He's a very good manager and he's certainly impressed me in the two or three days I've worked with him.
"But it's so important that we don't get carried away and raise expectations too much. It's still only early days, and though we've started with a win we realise there is still a long way to go."
