A UEFA spokesman said: "It appears from the footage that the Swiss player might have spat against the neck of his English opponent.
"Before issuing any disciplinary charge, UEFA wishes to collect further evidence including the statements of the parties concerned."
The Swiss camp, contrary to the clear evidence first shown by German channel ZDF , continue to insist that thee has been o wrong doing on the part of the Rennes forward.
Swiss team spokesman Pierre Benoit said: "No, absolutely not. England haven't complained I don't think.
"I saw the pictures on the TV and nothing happened. UEFA have asked us and I don't think that it will go any further."
