Gerrard looking for Cisse signature

The much-coveted Auxerre star looks set to finalise a summer transfer to Liverpool in a reputed £14m deal that would see him replace Emile Heskey as the club's record signing.

After keenly observing the sparkling skills of the pacy frontman from the comfort of his own home on Eurosport, Gerrard feels that 22-year-old Cisse would be a valuable addition for the Merseyside club.

Gerrard said: "He is someone I would like to see at Anfield because he is a real talent. Aside from that, what I look for is players who want to come and play at Liverpool. Listening to his comments in interviews it seems he's desperate to come here and do well for Liverpool and that is good enough for me.

"Obviously he has to come here and prove himself and that's never easy. But I've seen him in action on Eurosport and playing for the French national team and there's no doubt that he has ability.

"It is difficult to guarantee someone will be a success but if we can manage to spend £12 million on a player who turns into something like Thierry Henry or David Trezeguet then that will do for me."
