The Liverpool captain has pulled out of Fabio Capello's squad for tomorrow's friendly with Holland because of a groin injury.
"Steven Gerrard will not travel to Amsterdam this morning for England's friendly with Holland on Wednesday," confirmed a spokesman for the FA.
Gerrard's withdrawal is a precaution and he is expected to start against Tottenham on Sunday.
