Gerrard pleased with win

Gerrard's first Premiership goal of the season was enough to give the Reds all three points and after the game the midfielder admitted it was a tough game against a difficult side.

"It was a difficult game against a physical side. I thought Man City defended really well and didn't give much away. We had a difficult game in midweek and Man City have had a week's rest, so a big three points today and the most important thing was the win rather than the performance," said the Liverpool captain.

"We managed to get the breakthrough with my goal and we went on and claimed the three points. It was a good team performance today.

"I am more pleased with the three points than my goal because we have another home game on Wednesday and if we can do that against Portsmouth we can perhaps find ourselves in a better position in the league."
