And Spaniard Alonso believes the influential Red midfielder would walk into almost any team on the planet.
Alonso said: "Gerrard is a spectacular player and he provides charisma for the team with his play, and is so important for the supporters. He plays in midfield but gives so much support to the attack also. He is a powerful player that could triumph at any club."
Whilst the Reds have managed to maintain some of their form without the midfield maestro, Alonso believes the return of Gerrard will signal an increased effort for results at Anfield.
"Liverpool have felt the absence of Gerrard, and England also. For football, the best news is his rapid return to fitness."
