Gerrard praises Keane

Keane had a hand in both of Liverpool's goals on Saturday and his performance was praised by his captain.

"I think Robbie was a man of the match contender today," said Gerrard after the 2-0 win.

"He did everything but score and hopefully his goal will come in the coming weeks.

"Everyone else seems to be focusing on Robbie's need to score but the team is really happy with him and so is the manager.

"He's working really hard and playing really well. The ball he put on a plate for Torres' first was top drawer and that was typical Robbie Keane.

"If he keeps contributing to the team and working hard we'll be happy for him.

"I told him [Robbie] after the game that he was magnificent. That is all you can ask for. Ideally we'd have won 3-0 today and he'd have got the last one. But it hasn't happened.

"A goal is only around the corner for him. It'll be the most important one for him because I think more will follow but I think you must give Keane credit today for his overall performance."
