Gerrard relieved to go through.

Liverpool beat Luton 5-3 to book their place in tomorrow's fourth round draw but it was not a good performance from the Reds, for the first hour at least, and Gerrard admits he is just glad to have got through.

"It was a great FA Cup tie for the neutral but we're not happy with how we played," said the Liverpool captain.

"Full credit to Luton. They got right at us, upset us and stopped us from playing. It was probably one of the hardest games we've had this season.

"When I scored the opening goal I knew it wasn't going to be the only goal and didn't think it was going to win the game so it was pointless getting carried away so early in the game.

"We were expecting a tough game against Luton because they have got a very good Scouse manager and we knew they were going to be a very difficult team to beat.

"We haven't had the best of records against Championship sides recently. We got knocked out of the Carling Cup by Crystal Palace earlier in the season and everyone remembers the FA Cup defeat at Burnley last year so it was important we got through this one, no matter how we achieved it.

"The manager will have every right to criticise us though because things weren't right for about 65-70 minutes."
