Gerrard wants more success

Gerrard has the chance to lift a second European Cup in three years next Wednesday but even that won't satisfy the midfielder who wants the Reds to become the best side in the world.

"If we win next week I won't be happy with just that - I want more European Cup winners' medals," said the Liverpool skipper.

"I want as many honours for this club as I can get before I retire and every one I get makes me hungrier for more.

"You are a long time retired and I want to say I played my part in putting this club back at the top of world football.

"I want another star on the shirt, another European Cup win and that is the inspiration for us all. The Champions League is the biggest and we want to succeed again.

"I've watched Milan a lot this season and they are different from 2005, but they are still strong. They showed against Manchester United that they are a fantastic team and deserve a lot of respect and that's what we'll give them on the night, but we won't fear them.

"We're a good team ourselves and we're confident we can do the job. What's important to us is that we prepare right and that the Liverpool team that's been in Europe all season turns up in Athens.

"If that good team turns up then Milan are in for a really difficult game and we're confident we can lift that cup."
