"When I look back on my career I want to look at my medals and it would be great to say I have got the lot," he told the press in Japan. "You never know what is going to happen and, as players, we might only get one crack at this tournament so we have to make the most of it.

"To have a winners' medal for being the best club side in the world would be something special. That's why we aren't treating it as a holiday. We are serious and want to win.

"I have been lucky in that I have won lots of trophies at Liverpool and, if we can win in Japan, then that would leave the Premiership and the World Cup. I am confident I can deliver those two as well.

"I am 25 and, hopefully, I will have seven or eight more chances to win the Premiership."
