"If the manager asks me to play on the left, I'll go out and give it my best shot," he admitted. "But I feel you would get the best out of me in the middle.
"Everyone knows that I would prefer to play central midfield, particularly in a big tournament like Euro 2004.
"But I don't think it would be fair on the team if I started thinking about myself and saying that I definitely wanted to play in the middle."
