He said: "We are still in the title race. We're only seven points behind the leaders, it's only Christmas and we still have all of the other title contenders to play. It's still wide open but we need to start picking up wins as soon as possible."
The England midfielder, though, admitted that Everton deserved a shair of the spoils in Sunday's Merseyside derby.
"It was a bit of a scrappy game but you expect that in derbies," he said. "It was one hundred mile an hour stuff out there and very hectic. I thought when we got the ball down and tried to play then we were the better team.
"A draw was the right result. We played the better football at times without creating too many clear chances over the 90 minutes.
"Everton deserve their point because they have worked hard, defended well and been very hard for us to break down."
