Gerrard's worst fears confirmed

The Liverpool skipper could be out until Christmas, ruling him out of seven Premiership games plus the Champions League clash at Olympiakos and both games against Deportivo.

But, if all does not go according to plan, he could be out for a further month, missing the remainder of the first stage of Liverpool's Champions League campaign.

"I'm really disappointed," he said. "It is a bad blow for me. I want to be out for as short a time as possible. I don't know how long yet but we are hoping for eight weeks or so.

"What is disappointing is that I will miss the Champions League games because we started so well in that competition and we are looking to consolidate that.

"It is bad timing because we are obviously starting again with a new manager who is working on different things, and it is a bit of a learning process for the players."
